چکیده

Submillimeter and near-infrared images of cool dusty debris disks and rings suggest the existence of unseen planets. At dusty but nonimaged stars, semimajor axes of associated planets can be estimated from the dust temperature. For some young stars these semimajor axes are greater than 100 as seen from Earth. Such stars are excellent targets for sensitive near-infrared imaging searches for warm planets. To probe the full extent of the dust and hence of potential planetary orbits, Spitzer observations should include measurements with the 160 m filter. Subject headings: astrobiology — infrared: stars — planetary systems: protoplanetary disks

The Total Number of Giant Planets in Debris Disks with Central Clearings

Infrared spectra from the Spitzer Space Telescope (SSC) of many debris disks are well fit with a single black body temperature which suggest clearings within the disk. We assume that inside the clearing orbital instability due to planets removes dust generating planetesimal belts and dust generated by the outer disk that is scattered or drifts into the clearing. From numerical integrations we e...

Models of the Η Corvi Debris Disk from the Keck Interferometer, Spitzer, and Herschel

Debris disks are signposts of analogs to small-body populations of the solar system, often, however, with much higher masses and dust production rates. The disk associated with the nearby star η Crv is especially striking, as it shows strong midand far-infrared excesses despite an age of ∼1.4 Gyr. We undertake constructing a consistent model of the system that can explain a diverse collection o...

The Formation and Evolution of Planetary Systems: Placing Our Solar System in Context with Spitzer

We provide an overview of the Spitzer Legacy Program “Formation and Evolution of Planetary Systems” (FEPS) which was proposed in 2000, begun in 2001, and executed aboard the Spitzer Space Telescope between 2003 and 2006. This program exploits the sensitivity of Spitzer to carry out mid-infrared spectrophotometric observations of solar-type stars. With a sample of ∼328 stars ranging in age from ...
